On 4/13 I attended Heartbent's album release party at Metro Baltimore. What an amazing night! The bands were top notch, the crowds energy was off the charts, and the venue is awesome! Thank you Transcendent Events and Heartbent for letting me get some awesome pictures! The bands, ANOXIA. Set For Tomorrow, Hammer 47, and Heartbent all killed it, each one bringing their own sound. It really was a show for everyone!
Venue Review:
Metro Baltimore, located on the north side of Baltimore, is a small to medium venue that I personally really liked! On the outside the building is clearly marked and well lit with a no step entry which is always nice, especially since its on the smaller side. The front doors were light and easy to open, even from a wheelchair. You would be surprised how many places I visit and the door ways more than I do, those are tricky! Inside, the venue has a nice open floor plan. As you enter, the stage is on your immediate left and the ticket booth is on the right. The band's merch stands were along the right hand side and part of the back wall as well. The bathrooms were located straight back from the entrance and the bar was on the opposite side. I liked the setup because it allowed for smooth traffic around the edge of the crowd vs having to cram through everyone. The bathrooms were two multigender/family bathrooms so space was not an issue at all. I did have to ask where they were because I didn't see a sign, but that isn't a huge as the staff were more then helpful. The bar itself is a L shaped bar so access from the crowd was easy and they also had stools and a few tables around which is nice. Height wise I was able to interact with the bartenders and had no issues from the wheelchair, however, there was not a accessible bar spot like some more tourist restaurants have(lowered bar top/moveable terminal to allow for easy access from the chair). Not a huge deal and most venues I've been to do not have one, but it would be a nice touch amongst all concert venues. Again, like most smaller venues there was not a designated area for accessible viewing, but the staff were more than happy to make accommodations for me if I needed it. Since I was getting pictures I opted to just park myself at the corner of the stage and used my crutches. There's plenty of space along the walls and around the support pillars so viewing would always be decent. The only issue I would see is having a obstructed view while seated, but the stage was pretty tall so you still would be able to see well.
Overall, Metro Baltimore is a awesome venue that holds many different kind of events and I would certainly recommend it for any disabled fans wishing to get out there. Due to no obstructed pathways, open sized bathrooms, helpful staff, and decent accessible viewing for the size of the venue, it's safe to say Metro gets my stamp of approval with the FIRST ever Beyond The Barrier 10/10 rating! Woo!
Upcoming shows at Metro include Tx2 Official on May 12th, Until I Wake, Afterlife, and Who They Fear on May 21st, and Eyes Set To Kill on June 27th!
